Two cold winters mornings, 23 and 24 June 2012, did not stop any of the 32 teams (eight Division 5, four Division 3 and 20 Division 4 teams) that entered the SARPL 3-man Event 4 which was held at Paintball City, Germiston.
Teams started arriving from early morning setting up and getting themselves and their paintballs heated up for the event in the cold.
One Saturday morning Division 5 players got a great briefing by Lee Arran, Head Ref for the day making sure that all the new players knew how the SARPL games and rules work.
Due to some injuries and players not arriving for the pick-up team and Jnr Dragon Raiders we got some of the existing players together to play for these 2 teams to have a exiting morning of paintball.
Jessica Li played for Atomic and the Pick-Up team and exhausted herself on the field with some great games played during the day.
Not even the rain on Saturday could stop the players, and the marshalls stood their ground as the players completed the prelims.
The final standings for Division 5 was
1st – Atomic
2nd – Shogunate
3rd – S.Y.D
We hope to see some more new 3-man teams coming to join the SARPL 3-man Division 5 teams at future events and get into a fun league and division where they can learn to play great paintball. If you and your friends want to get involved contact us and come experience paintball on a different level.
The afternoon saw the four Division 3 teams taking each other on in same serious action packed games as they played it out for first, second and third. After the mornings semi-auto shooting with 200 paintball limit the afternoon action was insanely fast with 12.5bps PSP Ramping and some “trained” fingers rocking the triggers.
After a few tough games the final standings for Div 3 was:
1st – FML
2nd – PaintJob
3rd – Demon Crushers
Andrew Li had a few interesting moves up his sleeves and made sure for a laugh or two during the games as the “pro’s” did their moves.
It is also interesting to note that the Li family went home with 2 gold medals on Saturday. Jessica Li (Atomic – Div 5) and Andrew Li (FML – Div 3). It is clear that the paintball gene is strong in that family!
Sunday, after the sign-in and a quick players meeting, the prelims started on 2 fields with 20 teams’ players trying to get those fingers, and markers, to work in the cold. Prelims ran smoothly with some great games taking place on both fields. New team Militia was playing strong and some of the new teams like Regulators and Evilution had a rough start, but got into the games and played very well.
Players and supporters could follow the event scores as it happened online via this <<Live Score>> link and stay up to date with what was happening. Players can even review the games afterwards to see the scores and times.
After a quick lunch break the eight teams that went into the quarters were:
Bracket 1: Militia and FreeRunners 1
Bracket 2: Dark Legends and Battle Bros
Bracket 3: M.E.S and Pandemonium
Bracket 4: Reaper Kidz and Mechanix
In Quarter Finals Reaper Kidz knocked out Mechanix 2-0, Pandemonium knocked out M.E.S 2-1, Dark Legends knocked out Battle Bro’s 2-0 and FreeRunners 1 knocked out Militia in an intense 3 round battle with seconds left on the clock 1-0. The last game ended in a no point with a one for one call for Militia only 7 seconds before the end of the game.
Semi Finals
Bracket 1: FreeRunners 1 vs Reaper Kidz
Bracket 2: Dark Legends vs Pandemonium
Dark Legends took on Pandemonium in an intense 3 round game with one win each and the third game ended in a no point. The SARPL/PSP ruling states that the team that “wins” in such a case is the team with the fastest time between the two scored games, and in this case it was Dark Legends moving on to finals playing for first and second.
FreeRunners 1 and Reaper Kidz was next on the field and FreeRunners 1 took the first point, with Reaper Kidz coming back with some hard game play and went for a 2-1 win.
Finals
Third and Fourth was played between FreeRunners 1 and Pandemonium with a 2-0 victory for FreeRunners 1.
First and Second was played between Reaper Kidz and Dark Legends with a 2-0 victory for Reaper Kidz.
Final Division 4 standings
1st – Reaper Kidz
2nd – Dark Legends
3rd – FreeRunners 1
